Presentation of our research outcomes at the international conferences ICPP and Pectobacteriaceae satellite event
On 19-25 August 2023 we were participating in international conferences 12th International Congress of Plant Pathology (ICPP) and Pectobacteriaceae satellite event in Lyon (France). 12th ICPP attracted over 2400 participants from more than 100 countries. During this events we have presented our research outcomes. Our involvment in the conferences:
-> ,,GENOTYPIC AND PHENOTYPIC ANALYSES ON PECTOBACTERIUM ATROSEPTICUM ASSOCIATED WITH POTATO SOFT ROT AND BLACKLEG DISEASES IN POLAND” – oral presentation given by Prof. E. Łojkowska during Pectobacteriaceae: soft rot pathogenesis and symbiosis” satellite event
-> ,,INTRASPECIES VARIATION AND MALDI-TOF MS-BASED PHYLOPROTEOMIC STUDY OF AN ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT PLANT PATHOGEN DICKEYA SOLANI” – oral presentation given by Dr. Agata Motyka-Pomagruk during Pectobacteriaceae: soft rot pathogenesis and symbiosis” satellite event
-> ,,DOES THE MICROBIOME OF SOIL INFLUENCE DEVELOPMENT OF BLACKLEG AND SOFT ROT DISEASES CAUSED BY PECTOBACTERIACEAE?” – oral presentation given by MSc Weronika Babińska-Wensierska during Pectobacteriaceae: soft rot pathogenesis and symbiosis” satellite event
-> ,,Perspectives on the application of cold atmospheric pressure plasmas in plant protection against soft rot Pectobacteriaceae” – poster prepared by Dr. Agata Motyka-Pomagruk for 12th ICPP
-> ,,Pectinolytic Bacillus pumilus new pathogen of potato in Tunisia” – poster prepared by Prof. Ewa Łojkowska for 12th ICPP
-> ,,Biodiversity of bacterial plant pathogens from the Pectobacteriaceae family in polish wateways.” – poster prepared by MSc Weronika Babińska-Wensierska for 12th ICPP
Scholarship for outstanding young scientists has been awarded to Dr Agata Motyka-Pomagruk
Minister of Education and Science in Poland awarded scholarships to young outstanding scientists who carry out innovative research and have impressive scientific achievements of international scale.
One of these prestigous scholarships has been granted to the deputy quality manager from our Laboratory, dr Agata Motyka-Pomagruk.
The full list of the scholarship holders is available on the website of Ministry of Education and Science.

University open to innovations – an article about our research activities
We would like to encourage you to read the newest issue of the journal of University of Gdańsk. You can find there an interesting article on the innovations developed by our Academic society, including our research group. We investigate how to limit the spread and economic impact of bacterial phytopathogens and boost the transfer of knowledge between Academia and business. Have a nice reading:)

Our new invention got patented:)
2022.11.23 Patent Office of the Republic of Poland granted us a patent for a new invention entitled ‘Method for inactivating antibiotics in aqueous solutions‘ (Application no. P.431823 from 2019-11-15; Pat.242412)
This invention is the outcome of collaboration between University of Gdansk and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology. It enables effective degradation of antibiotics from aqueous solutions. These research outcomes are the effects of realisation of NCN Sonata 15 project 2019/35/D/ST8/04107.
This invention was awarded in Eureka! DGP competition in 2022.
Authors:
Dr. George DiCenzo from Queen’s University in Canada visited our research group
We are pleased to announce that from 04.03.23 until 18.03.23 we hosted in our laboratory Dr. George DiCenzo from Queen’s University in Canada. Dr DiCenzo is a specialist in molecular biology, systems biology and bioinformatics. Funding for his visit was granted in 3rd Visiting Professor Competition at Univeristy of Gdańsk. We collaborate in terms of realisation of OPUS 17 project and RNA-seq-based transcriptomic analyses on D. solani strains differing in the level of virulence. Dr. DiCenzo also prepared a course on bioinformatics and comparative genomics for PhD students of IFB UG & MUG.
MSc Michał Prusiński, PhD student of Prof. E. Łojkowska and PhD W. Śledź granted with ‘Pearls of Science’ project
We are pleased to announce that MSc Michał Prusiński, PhD student working under the supervision of Prof. Ewa Łojkowska and Dr. eng. Wojciech Śledź, was granted with ‘Pearls of Science’ project in the first edition of this competition.
Project PN/01/0050/2022 entitled “The use of plant extracts and metal nanoparticles against quarantine phytopathogens” received funding in the amount of PLN 239,866.00.
The subject of the program is to support entities of the higher education and science system in creating development conditions for exceptionally talented graduates of second-cycle studies by enabling them to conduct scientific research under the supervision of a scientific supervisor.
Congratulations!
We have implemented environmental management system according to ISO 14001
We are pleased to inform that we successfully implemented a certified environmental management system according to ISO 14001:)
